Loch Sunart is the longest east-west sea loch in Britain,
and harbours a wonderful array of wildlife, both above and
beneath the water. We are RSPB and BTO members and are always
happy to give advice and guidance on what you can see and
where: Otters often appear to accompany the serving of breakfast.
Bird-watchers will find that they are in a stronghold of the
Golden Eagle - and it is not unusual to see the huge White-tailed
Sea Eagle, Britain's biggest bird, soaring over the loch.
The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is home to an increasing
number of Corncrakes and many birds of prey including Hen
Harriers, Merlin and Red Kite have been seen recently.
On land, the Red Squirrel is present in healthy numbers, as
is the Pine Marten, which often visits houses, whilst Red
Deer are very common, together with the smaller Roe Deer.
On the water you may see Black and Red Throated Divers, and
Common Seals are constantly present, particularly at the Ardery
Wildlife Hide. Further out, the surrounding seas are
home to Minke and Killer Whales, Sperm Whales and the Common
Porpoise - you can take whale-watching trips from the Peninsula.
